Memory Care Services in Bethesda, MD
Auxiliary House is part of Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes, which began in 1995 as an alternative to the larger and more institutionalized settings. Our mission is to create a home-like environment where our residents can feel safe, comfortable, and loved. We believe true dementia care is about an intimate relationship with our residents and a partnership with our families.
Auxiliary House offers the comfort of a small, two-story home situated in Bethesda, Maryland in Montgomery County. While located right across the street from NIH and Suburban Hospital, residents can still enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the Bradmoor neighborhood.
Our home is designed for residents in the early to moderate stages of dementia. We provide 8 private studio bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. Auxiliary House also has a communal kitchen, dining room, living room, and sitting area for residents to enjoy.
Auxiliary House has a unique and individualized activity program, structured to meet the needs of residents with memory loss. Our amazing full-time activity therapist learns about each residents’ unique background and finds opportunities to bring them joy. You may find her outside working with residents in our garden, taking residents on a journey with her iPad to explore their hometown, leading a baking activity, or playing a resident’s favorite song on the piano.
In addition, our caregivers are trained to engage residents in meaningful activities throughout the day, such as sing-a-longs, working on puzzles, or art projects. In some cases, activities are led by the residents themselves; for example, one resident who is a former ballerina uses her experience to teach a morning exercise class for the other residents.
We keep a “Family Album” with a short biography on each resident that highlights their background, their interests and achievements. We use this to create an activity program that is truly unique to our residents at any given time.
