Cedar Glen Dementia Care in Rockville MD

Cedar Glen is a memory care facility in Rockville, Maryland, located in the lovely Fallsmead neighborhood. Our home is a quick and convenient drive off Interstate 270 and East of Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville. Cedar Glen is also located near Wootton’s Mill Park, Watts Branch Stream Valley Park, and is not far from Rockville town center, so visitors or residents can do some exploring while seeing their family members or friends.

Constructed in 1928 and listed on the Montgomery County registry of historic homes, our Rockville home itself is an architectural work of art with its unique architecture and large backyard garden. As one of the first structures built in the neighborhood back in 1928, it was surrounded by open landscapes and even had a view of Washington, DC. It was originally intended as a summer home, which explains the slate roof, exposed walls, and elegant cathedral-like ceilings.

Despite the homey feel, Cedar Glen is fully equipped and secured to meet the physical and cognitive needs of memory care residents who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Our facility is renowned for dementia care in Rockville, MD. Our experienced and dedicated caregivers, uniquely tailored activity program, and familiar home-like setting create an environment for residents to feel safe, well-cared for, and loved.

Our Memory Care Staff at Cedar Glen in Rockville

We’re one of the top-rated memory care facilities in Rockville, MD, because our small size enables each staff member to connect with residents on a personal level.

While many other larger memory care and assisted living facilities in Rockville serve hundreds of residents at a time, our community houses only 8 residents. The staff members at Cedar Glen provide help to individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia-related conditions, so they feel safe, comfortable, and loved.

Our staff-to-resident ratio is 1:3 in the morning and 1:4 in the evening, allowing staff to spend time with each resident. The dementia care industry has a generally high turnover rate, but Cedar Glen has a remarkably dedicated staff. Several of the caregivers have been working with the memory care community for over 10 and even 25 years.

The dedicated team at our Rockville community also includes a delegating nurse, two directors, a maintenance supervisor, an activity director, a human resources manager, and a business manager. We have staff on-site and available 24/7. We know residents with dementia can have unique support needs. With abundant caregivers and a small cohort, we can easily adapt and cater to their needs.

The Cedar Glen Memory Care Mission

Our mission is to have our memory care unit create a home-like environment where our residents will be treated with dignity and respect. We believe true dementia care is about an intimate relationship with our residents and a partnership with our families.

Cedar Glen is part of Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes, which began in 1995 as an alternative to larger, more institutionalized memory care facilities. We become a family and get to know each resident’s family members. This allows our staff to provide truly customized memory care programs.

Specially Tailored Memory Care Activities

We are passionate about engaging residents in Alzheimer’s care activities designed to provide meaning and improve their quality of life. When new residents move into Cedar Glen, we create a short biography on each individual that gives us a glimpse into their lives and what brings them joy. This becomes part of our “Family Album”. It includes where they were born, their proud accomplishments, and what types of hobbies and talents they have. Therefore, Cedar Glen’s creative activities are constantly evolving and may include art, music, exercise, word games, reminiscence therapy, puzzles, and more.

Amenities and Memory Care Services

From engaging memory care activities to individualized dementia care services, Cedar Glen provides amenities designed to cover all components of memory care and assisted living. Not only are residents’ physical needs met, but their happiness and comfort are prioritized, and their individuality is celebrated.

Our senior living community has a unique and individualized activity program structured to meet the needs of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss. Our amazing full-time activity therapist learns about each resident’s unique background and finds opportunities to bring them joy. You may find her outside working with residents in our garden, taking residents on a journey with her iPad to explore their favorite city, leading a trivia program, or playing residents’ favorite songs on the piano.

Dining

Our residents enjoy three home-cooked meals a day in our private dining room. Our caregivers learn each resident’s favorite food, how they like their coffee or tea in the morning and their favorite type of cereal or ice cream flavor. Unlike a larger assisted living community, our staff can cater meals to the resident’s individual dietary needs and preferences. Families can also bring in special food items their loved ones may enjoy.

Memory Enrichment Activities

We keep our residents involved and contributing–setting the table, helping fold laundry–encouraging a sense of purpose, and supporting them along the way. We’re not about bureaucracy, we’re about finding solutions and making life better for people who have little control over their minds and fewer choices about their lives than any of us would want.

In addition, our staff is trained to engage residents in meaningful activities throughout the day, such as leading daily exercises or sing-a-longs, working on puzzles, and doing art projects.

Activities of Daily Living

The staff in our community helps residents with activities of daily living, medication management, ambulation assistance, nutrition monitoring, housekeeping, and laundry.

In addition to our staff, we have doctors, nurses, therapists, dentists, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals who can visit residents at Cedar Glen. Residents are welcome to continue to see their own healthcare providers, but we provide the option to utilize our doctors for convenience, and more monitored medical oversight.

This community was great! They were very helpful and informative, and had a lot to offer for a much lower price then a lot of the other surrounding communities! Also love how all their homes are memory care homes in a small intimate environment!

Elaine Kallen Fertig

After visiting other facilities I chose Auxiliary House for my father as the staff was very one-on-one, dedicated, caring and their personal involvement with my father was outstanding – also making the family feel reassured and comfortable.

Kathy Sabatier

My mother has been a resident at Auxiliary House for over 4 years. We feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful place where the staff care so deeply for all the residents.

Ann Moseley

My mother has been in Cedar Glen for two and a half years. It was the second facility I visited and my search stopped there. It’s a genuine home, not at all institutional, where all the residents are known and loved as individuals. It’s also very professionally run and there are clearly systems in place to ensure high standards of care. Staff turnover seems almost nonexistent. It’s exactly what a care home should be and I feel so lucky to have found it.

Dave Chapman

My mother lives here. Ruthie and Anna are the best, not just for managing the facility and communicating to families, but for being visionary and pro-active during these very trying times. I never wonder if my mom is well cared for. Thanks to all the staff for everything they do for all the residents, not just my mom — we’re lucky to have found this home.

Tracy Perkins

Mom moved from Auxiliary House to Hillwood when she needed more care. Both houses are managed by Cedar Creek. Fabulous company that knows dementia inside and out and cares for the residents in small homes (not institutional entities). Staff are great and have a long tenure with the company, the management is helpful and informed, and we couldn’t be happier with the care they provide. Strongly recommend. It was a great place for Mom.

Mary Goldstein

Hillwood is Amazing! My Uncle has been there since October of 2019 and he is very happy. If you want your love one to be safe, happy and well cared for this is the place for them! I am so thankful for all the staff and management do for my Uncle.

Joanne Irving

I cannot say enough positive things about the wonderful care and attention my mother receives from the superb staff at the Cedar Creek Homes. I feel blessed to have found them.

Jane Kelley

Exceptional management. Wonderful and VERY dedicated staff. Loving environment. Creative activities. I can’t say enough positive things about my 11 year experience at this home. You will sleep well at night knowing your family member is in the best possible hands.
