Our Approach to Memory Care in Bethesda, MD
Uncovering Personal Journeys: Sharing Unique Life Stories
When a new resident moves into Hillwood, we write a short biography on each individual to highlight their life’s accomplishments and to give us insight into the person they were before their memory loss. We discuss where they grew up, what they spent their lives doing, their families, hobbies, and their greatest achievements.
This “Family Album” provides the basic framework for our activity program. If we have a resident who loves to garden, we make sure to add gardening into our schedule. If a resident was an artist, our Activity Therapist spends time doing art programs with the residents. Our activity program is therefore constantly changing and why we can say it is truly unique.
Compassionate Senior Care Services
We have on-site, awake staff 24/7. Our staff members are well trained to provide personal care services, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, medication administration, assistance with ambulation and feeding when needed. They can provide care that is personalized since they know not only about the physical needs of each resident but also about their rich and personal history. Knowing this type of information when providing compassionate care is invaluable. Our high staff-to-resident ratio allows our staff to dedicate time to caring for each resident.
In addition to our staff, we have doctors, nurses, therapists, dentists, podiatrists, and other health care professionals who can visit residents at Hillwood. Residents are welcome to continue to see their own health care providers, but we provide internal care options of utilizing our doctors for convenience and more monitored medical oversight.
A Team Committed to Personalized Care for Dementia & Alzheimer’s
With a resident capacity of 8 and a staff-to-resident ratio of 1:3 during the day and 1:8 overnight. Our caregivers get to know each resident personally, enabling them to provide individualized care.
What differentiates Hillwood from other communities is the loyalty of our staff. Many of our caregivers have been working with us for over 10 years, some for over 20. In a field with a generally high turnover rate, these numbers demonstrate our staff’s dedication and passion for long-term care.
In addition to our caregivers, our management team consists of a delegating nurse, an operations coordinator, a human resources manager, a business manager, an activity therapist, a maintenance supervisor, and two directors.
