Memory Care Facility Near Chevy Chase, Maryland

An image representing the concept of end-of-life, focusing on health professionals' roles in caring for those with life-limiting illnesses.

In the United States alone, there are almost 50 million senior citizens — adults over the age of 65. As adults get older, it’s common for them to experience things like memory loss, motor function issues and health conditions. While some seniors may be able to get by at home, others require more hands-on help — that’s where senior living comes in.

The goal of senior living is to give older adults the care and support they deserve during their golden years. At Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes’ Auxiliary House, we do our best to accommodate the needs of residents and improve the overall quality of life. Read on to learn more about what to expect from our home.

1:4 Staff-to-Resident Ratio

A Prime Location

Cedar Creek Memory Care is known for its premier residences, and Auxiliary House is no exception. Our home is situated in Bradmoor, Montgomery County, a peaceful neighborhood known for its natural beauty. Along with beautiful park views, you’ll find tons of convenient amenities (including Suburban Hospital and NIH, which are just across the street). While our home may be in Bethesda, we cater to residents of the surrounding areas, including:

  • Chevy Chase, MD (10-minute drive)
  • Silver Spring, MD (20-minute drive)
  • Washington, DC (30-minute drive)

The home itself consists of eight private rooms, complete with their own private restrooms. While we may be a senior living facility, our small size and central location create the feel of a cozy bed and breakfast.

A Warm Environment

Seniors sitting and having a conversation

At Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes’ Auxiliary House, we get to know each of our residents by maintaining a small resident capacity of eight. During the day, our staff-to-resident ratio is 1:4, which helps ensure someone is always available to cater to any emerging health concerns or requests.

Due to our private suites, residents can enjoy a sense of independence and manage their own space. We also offer several common areas, including the following:

  • Wrap-around porch
  • Vegetable and flower garden
  • Living room
  • Lounge
  • Dining room
  • Kitchen

Residents are free to roam around and take advantage of the different amenities available in the home. During warm days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside with a cup of tea and admiring the grounds and garden. When it’s colder, you might find residents indoors, socializing in the living room or enjoying a movie in the lounge.

High-Quality Memory Care Services

When looking for new assisted living and memory care facilities, one of the most important factors to consider is health services. At Auxiliary House, we feature a team of experienced care professionals who are available 24/7 to meet the unique care needs of residents. Services include:

  • Assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing and grooming)
  • Personal care and incontinence care
  • Medication administration

All of our caregivers are licensed as certified medical technicians — we also offer a visiting geriatric nurse practitioner and access to doctors, dentists, therapists and podiatrists. While needs vary, the majority of our residents require a cross between assisted living and dementia care services.

A Dedicated Staff

We wouldn’t be able to cater to the needs of Bradmoor and Chevy Chase residents if it weren’t for the help of our hard-working staff. Along with our licensed caregivers, we depend on the assistance of the following employees:

  • Manager
  • Delegating nurse
  • Maintenance supervisor
  • Two directors, clinical and operations
  • Activity therapist
  • HR manager

Every employee plays an essential role in ensuring our home is running smoothly. Many of our staff members have been with us for over 10 or even 20 years, which stands out in comparison to other senior living communities.

While every staff member has their own unique role, they all share one thing in common: an interest in helping and getting to know our residents. When a new resident comes in, they receive a special resident biography that highlights everything from their interests and achievements to their backgrounds and family lives. These albums help residents strengthen their memories and give employees a chance to get to know them on a deeper level.

Senior Living Activities

Memory care services and activities in Bethesda, Maryland

At our assisted living community, we offer a variety of activities designed to improve holistic health, keep residents engaged and encourage socialization. Instead of creating a set schedule of activities residents have to comply with, we let seniors get involved in the process. After working with our activity therapist, residents can create and even host their own small group activities that reflect their interests. Here are a few of the things you might find going on in our home:

  • Musical sessions
  • Fitness classes
  • Reminiscing exercises

When they’re not developing a new hobby by participating in an activity, you might find residents helping out around the house (such as by doing dishes or completing chores). By encouraging residents to be involved, we foster a friendly, easygoing environment that truly feels like home.

Delicious Dining and Additional Amenities

No senior living experience is complete without a good meal. At Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes, we offer three nutritious meals a day, all of which can be adjusted to meet special dietary restrictions and preferences. We also provide the following amenities:

    • Healthy snacks
    • Housekeeping and laundry services
    • Helpful technology (including a house iPad that can be used for video calls)

By taking care of household needs, we hope to keep every resident happy, healthy and secure.

What Families Say

Ashley Dotson Madison

This community was great! They were very helpful and informative, and had a lot to offer for a much lower price then a lot of the other surrounding communities! Also love how all their homes are memory care homes in a small intimate environment!

Elaine Kallen Fertig

After visiting other facilities I chose Auxiliary House for my father as the staff was very one-on-one, dedicated, caring and their personal involvement with my father was outstanding – also making the family feel reassured and comfortable.

Kathy Sabatier

My mother has been a resident at Auxiliary House for over 4 years. We feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful place where the staff care so deeply for all the residents.

Ann Moseley

My mother has been in Cedar Glen for two and a half years. It was the second facility I visited and my search stopped there. It’s a genuine home, not at all institutional, where all the residents are known and loved as individuals. It’s also very professionally run and there are clearly systems in place to ensure high standards of care. Staff turnover seems almost nonexistent. It’s exactly what a care home should be and I feel so lucky to have found it.

Dave Chapman

My mother lives here. Ruthie and Anna are the best, not just for managing the facility and communicating to families, but for being visionary and pro-active during these very trying times. I never wonder if my mom is well cared for. Thanks to all the staff for everything they do for all the residents, not just my mom — we’re lucky to have found this home.

Tracy Perkins

Mom moved from Auxiliary House to Hillwood when she needed more care. Both houses are managed by Cedar Creek. Fabulous company that knows dementia inside and out and cares for the residents in small homes (not institutional entities). Staff are great and have a long tenure with the company, the management is helpful and informed, and we couldn’t be happier with the care they provide. Strongly recommend. It was a great place for Mom.

Mary Goldstein

Hillwood is Amazing! My Uncle has been there since October of 2019 and he is very happy. If you want your love one to be safe, happy and well cared for this is the place for them! I am so thankful for all the staff and management do for my Uncle.

Joanne Irving

I cannot say enough positive things about the wonderful care and attention my mother receives from the superb staff at the Cedar Creek Homes. I feel blessed to have found them.

Jane Kelley

Exceptional management. Wonderful and VERY dedicated staff. Loving environment. Creative activities. I can’t say enough positive things about my 11 year experience at this home. You will sleep well at night knowing your family member is in the best possible hands.
