Cedar Creek Memory Care Facilities

When it comes to finding a memory care facility near Derwood, Cedar Creek offers five options in the surrounding area. Of the five homes, our Cedar Glen home is the closest.

Located just a 13-minute drive away from central Derwood, Cedar Glen provides a beautiful and serene setting for those with memory impairments. Our home is designed specifically to meet the needs of our residents, with a focus on safety, security, and comfort.

What sets Cedar Glen apart from other memory care facilities in the Cedar Creek family is its location: a country environment with plenty of scenic settings. The house itself, built in 1928, is on the National Historic Registry in Montgomery County, making it a point of distinction.

The quiet setting makes Cedar Glen an ideal location for dementia care services. It’s near Wootton’s Mill Park and a short drive from the Rockville town center, which is ideal for family members and friends visiting loved ones at Cedar Glen memory care home.

The house itself has been retrofitted to provide a secure environment for memory care residents. It’s spacious, with expansive garden areas and comfortable common areas for residents to engage with one another.

Art, music and physical exercise are all part of the approach to memory care at Cedar Glen. Puzzles and brain games are also implemented in programming. Cedar Glen boasts many of the amenities for which assisted living has become well known. The staff members all have extensive backgrounds in memory care, with some cultivating more than two decades of experience in this care setting.

Individualized Approach to Memory Care

Each Cedar Creek memory care community is capable of hosting eight to 14 residents while maintaining a high staff-to-client ratio. This means residents come to rely on the consistency among staff. Our individualized approach allows for staff members to develop personal relationships with each resident – just another way Cedar Creek stands apart from others in Montgomery County.

We also consider residents when creating plans for programming. After all, who better to know their interests than the residents themselves? We tap residents to lead group activities or help staff members with some of the daily chores around the community. Residents aren’t required to engage in activities they don’t enjoy but rather are given responsibilities to help them feel they’re contributing to the community as much as they want to. This helps them feel a sense of sharing in the space they live in and develop a sense of purpose. Feeling that belonging and sense of purpose helps residents dealing with memory loss find meaning in their day.

Moreover, by giving residents a sense of ownership over different programs and activities, they’re more likely to inspire others to participate as well. This helps residents who may be slower to get involved with activities feel a little less alone when fellow residents encourage them. Socializing is an important aspect of successfully navigating any senior living community. It helps residents when they feel connected to one another, which is why we go out of our way to promote many different activities and hobbies in each of our homes.

Activity Program Options in Memory Care

All the Cedar Creek homes near Derwood have robust activity options to ensure residents remain fully engaged. This includes personalized programs that help address memory care issues, as well as group programs that allow residents to interact with one another. All of this contributes to an enhanced approach to wellness, which helps tremendously with various memory care issues.

Examples of activity options include gardening, walking, crafting and more. Brain games are common in memory care environments, as the enhanced stimulation helps residents retain cognitive function and build new pathways in the brain. As such, puzzles and current events are common among resident groups in memory care settings. Music therapy may also be incorporated in memory care activities to give residents a way to retain important memories. While independence is an important part of ensuring residents still retain a strong sense of self, the level of assistance they receive can easily be changed as their memory care conditions progress.

What Families Say

Ashley Dotson Madison

This community was great! They were very helpful and informative, and had a lot to offer for a much lower price then a lot of the other surrounding communities! Also love how all their homes are memory care homes in a small intimate environment!

Elaine Kallen Fertig

After visiting other facilities I chose Auxiliary House for my father as the staff was very one-on-one, dedicated, caring and their personal involvement with my father was outstanding – also making the family feel reassured and comfortable.

Kathy Sabatier

My mother has been a resident at Auxiliary House for over 4 years. We feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful place where the staff care so deeply for all the residents.

Ann Moseley

My mother has been in Cedar Glen for two and a half years. It was the second facility I visited and my search stopped there. It’s a genuine home, not at all institutional, where all the residents are known and loved as individuals. It’s also very professionally run and there are clearly systems in place to ensure high standards of care. Staff turnover seems almost nonexistent. It’s exactly what a care home should be and I feel so lucky to have found it.

Dave Chapman

My mother lives here. Ruthie and Anna are the best, not just for managing the facility and communicating to families, but for being visionary and pro-active during these very trying times. I never wonder if my mom is well cared for. Thanks to all the staff for everything they do for all the residents, not just my mom — we’re lucky to have found this home.

Tracy Perkins

Mom moved from Auxiliary House to Hillwood when she needed more care. Both houses are managed by Cedar Creek. Fabulous company that knows dementia inside and out and cares for the residents in small homes (not institutional entities). Staff are great and have a long tenure with the company, the management is helpful and informed, and we couldn’t be happier with the care they provide. Strongly recommend. It was a great place for Mom.

Mary Goldstein

Hillwood is Amazing! My Uncle has been there since October of 2019 and he is very happy. If you want your love one to be safe, happy and well cared for this is the place for them! I am so thankful for all the staff and management do for my Uncle.

Joanne Irving

I cannot say enough positive things about the wonderful care and attention my mother receives from the superb staff at the Cedar Creek Homes. I feel blessed to have found them.

Jane Kelley

Exceptional management. Wonderful and VERY dedicated staff. Loving environment. Creative activities. I can’t say enough positive things about my 11 year experience at this home. You will sleep well at night knowing your family member is in the best possible hands.
