If you have a loved one struggling with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, you’re not alone. Millions of older adults struggle to complete daily tasks, recall information and manage their health requirements. To ensure their loved ones get the support and care they need, more and more people are turning to senior living communities. At Cedar Creek Memory Care Homes’ Auxiliary House, we offer an encouraging environment, a dedicated team and high-quality memory care services. Here’s a closer look at what our assisted living facility has to offer.

A Secure, Comfortable Environment

When examining memory care facilities, it’s important to choose a home that provides an easygoing, supportive environment. At Auxiliary House, we offer a cozy two-story home complete with an elevator, wrap-around porch and eight private rooms (all with their own bathrooms). By maintaining a small resident capacity of eight, we help make sure every resident’s needs are catered to.

In terms of location, our home is in Bethesda, Montgomery County. Nearby communities include Kensington (12 minutes away), Silver Spring (20 minutes away) and Washington, D.C. (10 minutes away). Auxiliary House is also conveniently across the street from Suburban Hospital, one of the major hospitals in the area, as well as The National Institutes of Health (NIH). Residents can enjoy the natural beauty of the region as well as the security of a safe facility and staff trained in dementia care.

Quality Care Services

Our community is designed for residents with early to moderate stage dementia. The majority require a mix of assisted living and memory care — many residents enjoy varying levels of independence, and some even help around the home by doing chores or hosting classes. In terms of health needs, our dedicated caregivers work around the clock to accommodate residents. Care services include:

  • Bathing, dressing and grooming
  • Personal care/incontinence care
  • Medication administration
  • Recovery assistance after a hospital or rehab stay
  • Access to doctors, dentists and podiatrists

Not only are caregivers available 24/7, but they’re also licensed as certified medical technicians. During the day, we maintain a staff-to-resident ratio of 1:4, which helps guarantee every resident gets the care and attention they deserve.

In addition to caregivers, our memory care home features a delegating nurse, a manager, a landscaping supervisor and clinical, operations and activity directors. The members of our team work together to make our home an encouraging, wonderful community — many of them have been with us for over 10 or even 20 years.

Holistic Activities

At Auxiliary House, we like to keep residents active and engaged through unique activities designed to improve their physical, mental and spiritual health. Rather than set a schedule of predetermined community events, we keep things exciting by inviting residents to work with our full-time activity therapist and choose what kind of small group activities they’d like to try. Some of our residents have even hosted their own classes. Some activities we offer include:

  • Puzzle and trivia games
  • Arts and crafts
  • Singing and musical events
  • Movie nights
  • Fitness and dance sessions

Along with physical activities, we offer special memory care activities designed to stimulate the minds of residents and forge close bonds between residents and staff. For example, when they move in, every individual has a short biography created that highlights details about their background, family members, interests and accomplishments. Our staff members then read these biographies and answer questions about them, which helps our team get to know residents beyond their care needs.

Senior Living Amenities

One thing we can promise our residents is that they’ll never get bored while staying at Auxiliary House. Those with limited assisted living needs are able to explore Bethesda’s natural scenery with a staff member, as well as the surrounding areas. We’re only a short distance from Kensington. There’s also plenty to do inside — our home contains the following:

  • Vegetable/flower garden
  • Living room
  • Dining room
  • Kitchen
  • Lounge area

During warm weather, many residents enjoy helping in the garden. We also have a wrap-around porch, which is the perfect setting for enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. In the interior of our home, residents are free to socialize in the lounge, make beverages in the kitchen or enjoy a book in the living room. We do our best to foster a comfortable, friendly atmosphere that’s welcoming to everyone.

As a comprehensive, modern senior living home, we strive to cater to all resident needs. In addition to health and personal care assistance, we offer the following services:

  • Dining services
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry

Every resident enjoys three nutritious, home-cooked meals a day (as well as snacks). All meals are adjusted to meet dietary needs and preferences — if a resident has an allergy or a health requirement, you can trust our staff to accommodate it.

We also provide regular housekeeping and on-site laundry services. By handling the mundane chores, we hope to give our residents the time and energy they need to forge friendships, experience new hobbies and improve their physical and mental health.

What Families Say

Ashley Dotson Madison

This community was great! They were very helpful and informative, and had a lot to offer for a much lower price then a lot of the other surrounding communities! Also love how all their homes are memory care homes in a small intimate environment!

Elaine Kallen Fertig

After visiting other facilities I chose Auxiliary House for my father as the staff was very one-on-one, dedicated, caring and their personal involvement with my father was outstanding – also making the family feel reassured and comfortable.

Kathy Sabatier

My mother has been a resident at Auxiliary House for over 4 years. We feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful place where the staff care so deeply for all the residents.

Ann Moseley

My mother has been in Cedar Glen for two and a half years. It was the second facility I visited and my search stopped there. It’s a genuine home, not at all institutional, where all the residents are known and loved as individuals. It’s also very professionally run and there are clearly systems in place to ensure high standards of care. Staff turnover seems almost nonexistent. It’s exactly what a care home should be and I feel so lucky to have found it.

Dave Chapman

My mother lives here. Ruthie and Anna are the best, not just for managing the facility and communicating to families, but for being visionary and pro-active during these very trying times. I never wonder if my mom is well cared for. Thanks to all the staff for everything they do for all the residents, not just my mom — we’re lucky to have found this home.

Tracy Perkins

Mom moved from Auxiliary House to Hillwood when she needed more care. Both houses are managed by Cedar Creek. Fabulous company that knows dementia inside and out and cares for the residents in small homes (not institutional entities). Staff are great and have a long tenure with the company, the management is helpful and informed, and we couldn’t be happier with the care they provide. Strongly recommend. It was a great place for Mom.

Mary Goldstein

Hillwood is Amazing! My Uncle has been there since October of 2019 and he is very happy. If you want your love one to be safe, happy and well cared for this is the place for them! I am so thankful for all the staff and management do for my Uncle.

Joanne Irving

I cannot say enough positive things about the wonderful care and attention my mother receives from the superb staff at the Cedar Creek Homes. I feel blessed to have found them.

Jane Kelley

Exceptional management. Wonderful and VERY dedicated staff. Loving environment. Creative activities. I can’t say enough positive things about my 11 year experience at this home. You will sleep well at night knowing your family member is in the best possible hands.
